Therapeutic Approach and Specialization
Taylor Cunningham, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist specializing in couples therapy and treating individuals. Dr. Cunningham is a Raleigh-Durham psychologist treating clients throughout North Carolina (NC). Dr. Cunningham believes therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach and intentionally tailors treatment for each client’s specific needs and style. She is skilled in treating a wide range of clinical problems and disorders, including depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, PTSD, adjustment difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem, communication difficulties, and interpersonal concerns.
Lasting Change For Individuals
Dr. Cunningham draws from numerous therapeutic models to promote lasting change for her clients’ individual needs. She provides skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify core beliefs and negative patterns, fostering change by building more helpful thinking and behaviors. Dr. Cunningham also utilizes Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal relationships. Dr. Cunningham focuses on the importance of self-care, intentional behaviors, connection, and mindfulness.
Couples Therapy
In addition to her individual work, Dr. Cunningham specializes in and is passionate about working with couples. She has expertise working with couples struggling with communication, loss of connection, intimacy concerns, and building trust after a betrayal or affair. Dr. Cunningham utilizes her training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help clients break free from negative cycles in their relationships and move toward more positive and healthy interactions. Dr. Cunningham is committed to helping you explore the root of your difficulties and assist in rediscovering the reasons you chose your partner. Working with Dr. Cunningham, you will learn skills essential to keeping your relationship healthy through communication, trust, and intimacy.
Dr. Cunningham believes in a collaborative approach to therapy, where feedback is a two-way street and continues throughout the course of treatment. She is committed to providing the highest standard of care through evidence-based modalities. Dr. Cunningham utilizes the therapeutic relationship as a tool for feedback and insight development. Working with Dr. Cunningham, you will feel challenged, yet always supported. Dr. Cunningham takes a casual approach to therapy, without compromising the importance of evidence-based skills and the work required for therapeutic change.
