Dr. Trumbull, Ph.D., received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Duke University. She specializes in working with couples, individuals with trauma, infertility, and individuals struggling with strong emotional responses and experiences. Dr. Trumbull is highly trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). She has experience working with clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including fertility clinics and community mental health care settings.

Lasting Change for Individuals

Dr. Trumbull has extensive training in evidence-based trauma therapies and works with a range of clinical presentations, including mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, BPD, and those struggling with infertility. She is particularly passionate about working with individuals who struggle with strong emotions and may experience intense anxiety, perfectionism, impulsivity, relationship instability, or trauma. After completing her internship at the Bronx VA, she also enjoys working with veterans or those who have experienced military culture. She thoughtfully combines scientifically proven Cognitive Therapies with deeper, process-oriented, insight-oriented approaches to tackle not just client symptoms, but also get to the root of the problems. She is passionate about helping her clients reach their goals, experience greater freedom, contentment, stability, and confidence that can sometimes feel out of reach amidst mental health challenges. She loves working with clients who are motivated to be proactive in deepening their sense of purpose and meaning.

Her stance is collaborative, as she consistently seeks input and willingness to try different interventions that a sturdy body of research has proven effective. Starting with a clinical assessment, Dr. Trumbull identifies symptoms, long-standing patterns, and behaviors that contribute to your life, and will create a personalized treatment plan that expands on your goals. She is primarily trained as a cognitive behavioral therapist, but her guiding principle is simply science; she uses interventions that are evidence-based. She pulls from DBT, ACT, EFT, exposure therapies, and other CBTs to inform her approach.

Couples Therapy

Dr. Trumbull is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, one of the most prominent and evidence-backed therapies for couples. In EFT, Dr. Trumbull will help you and your partner understand and process the cycle that keeps you stuck in repeated arguments, distance, or resentments, and learn to connect with and communicate the emotions underlying this cycle. Dr. Trumbull will facilitate a safe and supportive space for you and your partner(s) to begin taking the risks necessary to help your relationship flourish, for instance, by sharing your true feelings, expressing your secret desires, or explaining why you may sometimes feel too scared or overwhelmed to communicate. She will also help each of you understand and communicate how your own attachment histories influence the way you experience your relationship, so that you can learn how to soothe, support, and protect each other more effectively. Dr. Trumbull enjoys working with couples of any sexual, gender, or relationship orientation.
